Rational Youth - Cite Phosphore 2011
DeepSound Records [DSR047]
The golden age of the new wave era returns to DeepSound Records with Part 2 of updated 2011 house versions of the classic "City of Night" by one of the pioneers of the alternative/synth-pop era, Rational Youth. Following the success of "City of Night 2011", the French-language version of their Paris-influenced signature track, known as "Cite Phosphore 2011", finally arrives. "Cite Phosphore 2011", fully approved by Rational Youth and its original label, brings the band back to not only to its faithful international fan base, but also to a new, unsuspecting dancefloor-savvy world which can now be introduced to Howe's uncanny alternative vocal stylings. The updated versions include two mixes by label head Max Julien, with his faithful-to-the-original "Thunderdome Mix", named after the most famous alternative club in Montreal's nightlife history (where he held a DJ residency), and the deep, dark, and powerful "Afterhours in Paris Mix", perfect for today's underground all-night house scene. Also included on the package are remixes by Brazilian veteran Marco Zappala and Montreal remixer duo of Omar Cito Perez & E.P. Bergen, the latter of Bran Van 3000 fame. The Canadian band, then composed of the duo of Tracy Howe and Bill Vorn, who along with such early 1980s bands as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Soft Cell, Human League, and Men Without Hats redefined synth-heavy grooves destined for global dancefloors. Their French translation of "City of Night", initially released as a B-side in 1982, display their bilingual roots and strong ties to their hometown of Montreal.. Watch out for one more package in the fall as trance versions of both "City of Night 2011" and "Cite Phosphore 2011" will see the light on trance sister label DeepMoon Records. YUL Records will also release a CD compilation of some of the best remixes of "City of Night 2011" this summer. A dancefloor classic has indeed returned..
